Working within the physical constraints of an urban setting, on a constricted budget, and with clients that began with the assumption that bigger is better, our Studio, developed a strategy to minimize the impact on the existing 60 year old residence, while providing an updated addition that balances equal parts new interior living space, with adjacent exterior living spaces.

By overlapping program, removing interior walls, and dissolving the home’s exterior skin, a compact design was achieved that feels expansive, connected to the garden, and yet maintains privacy from the neighbors.
